Bucs Win 75-73 Thriller Over Ottawa

(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert men’s basketball team (4-9, 1-0) opened conference play with a nail-biting victory over the Ottawa University Arizona Spirit (7-8, 0-1) by a score of 75-73, Saturday night at Arizona Athletic Grounds.

In a high-scoring game that stayed within one score for the final four minutes, Buccaneers guard Tanner Pate hit the game-winning three-pointer with 14 seconds remaining.

Tanner led the team in scoring tonight with 16 points, nailing four threes off 32 minutes played. He was one of five players to reach double-figures in scoring today.

Forward Tyson Banks provided a strong paint presence with his 13 points, shooting 6-8 from the field IN his first double-digit performance of the year. Guard Marquis McKinzy shot 3-6 from three-point land in his 12-point effort. Guards Toate Sika and Ryan Pate made valuable contributions off the bench with 11 and 10 points respectively, each playing 20+ minutes.

All but one of Park-Gilbert’s players scored against OUAZ, as the wealth was shared throughout the night. The Bucs shot a total of 44.3% from the field and 40.7% from downtown.

The Buccaneers hit the road for California next week, when they face Life Pacific University (7-2, 1-0) on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 8:30 p.m. MST in San Dimas, California.
