(Chandler, AZ) The Park University Gilbert men’s basketball team (2-7, 0-0) fell to the Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears (8-2, 0-0), Sunday afternoon at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
The Buccaneers played a tight game against a Battlin’ Bears program, who received votes in the previous NAIA top-25 rankings poll, even holding a 10-point lead with 8:41 remaining in the second half.
However a late Rocky Mountain rally, led by three triples from guard Jesse Owens in the final 5-6 minutes, propelled the Battlin’ Bears to a win.
Junior guard Toate Sika led the Bucs in scoring today with 16 points off 30 minutes played, in what turned into an impressive debut for the transfer from Pima Community College. Sika shot an efficient 7-11 from the field, and hauled in four rebounds.
The Park-Gilbert men’s basketball team will play its second game of the Cactus Classic tomorrow, Dec. 15 at 12:00 p.m. MST, against the University of Providence (Montana) at Chandler-Gilbert Community College.
