(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (1-0) opened the 2024-25 regular season on Saturday as it hosted Ascending Prep at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 10 ranked Aztecs defeated the Saints 154-60.
After giving up the first points of the game, the Aztecs went on a 17-0 run and went on to score 80 points in the first half (80-28).
Pima opened the second half going on a 17-4 run and outscored Ascending Prep 74-32 in the second half.
Sophomore Max Majerle (Arcadia HS) finished with a game-high 29 points on 10 for 17 shooting and 4 for 7 from three-point range. He completed his double-double with 10 rebounds and also added five assists and three steals.
Sophomore Wes Ball (Marana HS) was a force in the paint as he finished with 25 points and 19 rebounds (seven offense). He went 9 for 14 from the field and 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Ball also added three assists and two steals.
Freshman Isaac Johnson went 10 for 12 from the field and had 20 points off the bench. He also had seven rebounds and three steals.
Sophomore Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) fell short of a triple-double as he posted 18 points, nine assists and nine steals. Freshman Kaelum Brown (Casteel HS) was 8 for 9 from the floor with 16 points. Sophomore Cooper Jones (Buena HS) finished 5 for 9 from downtown with 15 points. Freshman Khalon Johnson (Eduprize Charter) had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds.
Sophomore Kota Benson (Mesa HS) closed it out with 15 assists, six points and two steals.
The Aztecs will be back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium next Saturday, Nov. 9 when they go up against Arizona Christian University JV. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
