Gilleland’s double-double helps Volleyball stymie No. 6 Scottsdale CC to close regular season

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College volleyball team (16-12, 12-6 in ACCAC) closed out the regular season on Friday against Scottsdale Community College (17-4, 14-4).

The Aztecs upset the No. 6 ranked Artichokes in four sets 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-19 winning three unanswered games. Pima won two of the three meetings against Scottsdale during the regular season. The Aztecs set a new program record with 12 ACCAC conference wins.

Sophomore Haylee Gilleland (Flagstaff HS) finished the match with 16 kills, 14 digs and three blocks while fellow sophomore Elli Meinke (Ironwood Ridge HS) posted 12 kills and four aces.

Sophomore Taylor Crawford (Ironwood Ridge HS) closed out the match with 54 assists, three aces and six kills.

Sophomore Kenna Simon finished with nine kills and two blocks and sophomore Jasmin Joseph (Tanque Verde HS) had 17 digs and two aces.

The Aztecs will be the No. 3 seed at the Region I, Division II Tournament. All matches in the double elimination tournament will be at No. 1 seed Glendale Community College. The Aztecs will open tournament play on Thursday against No. 2 seeded Scottsdale Community College at 4:00 p.m.
