(La Verne, CA) The Park University Gilbert men’s soccer team (6-6-4, 4-4-4) took down the Life Pacific University Warriors (1-14-0, 0-11-0) in a dominating 8-1 fashion, Saturday afternoon on the road in La Verne, California.
The Buccaneers keep their postseason hopes alive this week, currently fifth in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference and one game back from Benedictine Mesa (6-7-2, 5-4-2). Today’s seven goal margin of victory, and eight total goals in a game, were the most all regular season.
A five goal first half, and a hat trick from senior midfielder Konstantin Papanikolaou (17:46, 24:28, 82:47) led the charge for Park-Gilbert’s offense. The Bucs took 21 total shots, converting 38% of their shots into scores.
Ashton Owen recorded two goals in the 33rd and 59th minutes of play. Sophomore forward Ilan Rodriguez-Rodarecorded a goal in the 42nd minute and two assists (33:58, 41:14) on the day, setting his teammates up with plenty of solid offensive chances. Sophomore forward Konstantinos Hinteregger also recorded at least one goal (41:14) and assist on the day.
Both teams recorded double-digit fouls. Park-Gilbert had two yellow cards and a red card while Life Pacific recorded five yellow cards and one red card.
The Park-Gilbert men’s soccer team returns to play this Thursday, Oct. 26 at 8:00 p.m. MST, returning to Arizona to face Benedictine Mesa at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Arizona.
