Buccaneers Soccer Falls to Hope International

(IRVINE, CA)  The Park University Gilbert women’s and men’s soccer teams dropped their contests against the Hope International University Royals, Thursday night on the road at the OC Great Park Championship Stadium in Irvine, Calif.

WOMEN’S SOCCER 2 – HOPE INTERNATIONAL 7

The Buccaneers (2-10-3, 1-7-3) couldn’t find their spark against the No. 21 ranked program in the NAIA, until the 68th minute when they scored two unanswered goals on the Royals (13-1-1, 10-0-1).

Royals forward Jordan Galvin scored a hat trick (4:08, 25:32, 52:03) en route to the win. Midfielder Alyssa Rubio scored back-to-back goals in the 58th and 61st minute.  Forward Christiane Sundstrom, winner of last week’s NAIA Offensive Player of the Week award, recorded three assists.

Senior forward Dani Mares got the Bucs on the board, scoring her second goal of the season.  Around the 83rdminute of the match, a corner kick from junior defender Alicia Yipina set up their second score of the night. Junior defender Jocelyn Chavez netted the final goal of the evening with Ypina assisting on the play.

The Park-Gilbert took 11 shots, six on goal. The first half only saw a total of four shots. The Royal’s offense took a total of 20 shots and 12 on goal in the match.

Buccaneers goalkeepers, junior Morgan Trail and freshman Journey Morimoto, combined for five saves.

MEN’S SOCCER 0 – HOPE INTERNATIONAL 2

Park-Gilbert (6-6-4, 3-4-4) ultimately fell short against a Hope International (9-3-3, 6-2-3) squad currently one game behind the top of the GSAC.

The Buccaneers only had one shot in the first half of play to the Royal’s seven, as forward Christian Carranza netted the match’s opening goal in the 46th minute. Midfielder Sebastian Ramirez recorded the assist.

Sebastian then found the back of the net in the 64th minute, with defenseman Aldo Ramirez assisting on the play.

The Bucs recorded five shots in the second half, bringing their total on the night to six. Junior midfielder Havard Brynie and sophomore Ilan Rodriguez Roda took the team’s two shots on goal.

The Royals took a total of 20 shots, and sophomore goalkeeper Nicklas Lagesen recorded 11 saves.
A physical match ensued throughout the night as Park-Gilbert recorded 25 fouls and Hope International recorded 18 fouls. A total of seven yellow cards were issued.

NEXT UP: LIFE PACIFIC, SATURDAY OCT. 26

Both squads hit the road again, taking a quick trip from Irvine to San Dimas, Calif. to take on the Life Pacific University Warriors this Saturday, October 26.

The women’s game will kick off at 9:30 a.m. MST, and the men’s game is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. MST.
