(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (14-1, 13-1 in ACCAC) earned its seventh straight win on Tuesday as it played an afternoon match at South Mountain Community College (2-10-1).
The No. 4 ranked Aztecs scored three answered goals in the second half to beat the Cougars 4-1. The Aztecs have outscored their opponents 40-2 over the last seven games and have netted four or more goals in that stretch.
The Aztecs broke open the tie game when freshman Sebastian Guzman (Flowing Wells HS) scored on an assist from fellow freshman Jay Hogan. Pima got their final goal of the game from Hogan as he scored in the 71st minute with an assist provided by freshman Robert Castaneda (Nogales HS).
Sophomore Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) put the score at 3-1 with his goal in the 66th minute.
The Aztecs broke a scoreless tie late in the first half as sophomore Jose Luis Martin Montealegre found the back of the goal post in the 37th minute with an assist from sophomore Brandon Sanchez (Canyon del Oro HS).
The Cougars tied the game at 1-1 just 1:11 into the second half with a goal from Josh Marin.
The Aztecs finished with 14 shots on goal. Sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) closed out the game with two saves.
The Aztecs will be back on the road on Saturday when they face a tough test at No. 20 Glendale Community College. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
