(Mesa, AZ) The Park University Gilbert women’s soccer team (1-6-2, 0-3-2) lost 2-0 at home to the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Prescott Eagles (5-2-2, 4-1-0) Thursday night at Arizona Athletic Grounds.
The Buccaneers put up a solid fight against the No. 15 program in the NAIA, but ultimately dropped this contest losing 3-1.
After roughly 34 minutes of scoreless action, Embry-Riddle broke the tie when midfielder Rae Yoshioka found the back of the net. Yoshioka then scored her second goal of the evening in the 40th minute, off an assist from forward Tessa Updegraff.
The Eagles also opened up the second half scoring with goal to go up 3-0, as forward Jamie Black scored in the 80th minute of play assisted by midfielder Katelyn Kelch.
The Bucs responded two minutes later, when freshman forward Kiara Rubio scored the first goal of her collegiate career, assisted by senior forward Dani Mares.
With 22 shots and 13 shots on goal, the Eagles took advantage of all their offensive opportunities tonight. Buccaneers goalkeeper Morgan Trail recorded 10 saves, her first double-digit save performance of the season. Park-Gilbert’s offense took five shots on the evening, converting their only shot on goal into a score.
The Bucs will quickly move forward and prepare for a road trip to take on The Master’s University (7-2-0, 4-1-0) this Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:00 a.m. MST at Reese Field in Santa Clarita, California.
