Sanchez produces hat trick, Ruiz has three assists as #4 Men’s Soccer downs Chandler-Gilbert CC

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (10-1, 9-1 in ACCAC) got back to ACCAC Division II conference play on Tuesday as it hosted Chandler-Gilbert Community College (0-10) at the West Campus Aztec Field.

The No. 4 ranked Aztecs secured another double-digit win season after they blanked the Coyotes 9-0 for their seventh shutout win of the season. The Aztecs took control when they scored four goals in four minutes during the first half.

Sophomore Brandon Sanchez (Canyon del Oro HS) finished the game with a hat trick as he put the Aztecs on the board in the 24th minute. He netted his second goal in the 37th minute to make it 4-0 and started off the second half scoring with a shot in the 50th minute to make it 6-0.

Sophomore Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) found his teammates in the right places as he closed out the game with three assists. He set up sophomore Jacob Lund-Iversen for his goal in the 36th minute and had back-to-back assists when he connected with sophomore Mateo Soto (Tucson Magnet HS) in the 38th minute and Sanchez in the 50th. Ruiz made it 7-0 with his goal in the 64th minute that was assisted by freshman Robert Castaneda (Nogales HS).

Lund-Iversen also finished with two assists in the game. Sophomore Jose Luis Martin Montealegre, as well as freshmen Jay Hogan and Eythan Mancilla, scored goals for Pima.

The Aztecs finished with 22 shots on goal and held the Coyotes to two for the game. Freshman Alex Cristerna Oleta (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the match with two saves.

The Aztecs will play an afternoon match on Saturday at Paradise Valley Community College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
