(Paradise Valley, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (3-0) played its first home match at the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday against Paradise Valley Community College (1-2).
The No. 5 ranked Aztecs earned their first shutout win of the season beating the Pumas 5-0.
Freshman Robert Castaneda (Nogales HS) scored the first two goals of the game in the first half. Sophomores Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) and Jacob Lund-Iversen had the assists.
Ruiz netted his goal to make it 3-0 with an assist from freshman Eythan Mancilla (Sunnyside HS).
Sophomore Missael Montilla (Tucson Magnet HS) was a part of Pima’s final two goals. He had the assist to sophomore Marco Reynoso’s (Rincon HS) goal and added the final insurance goal. Mancilla had his second assist of the game for Montilla’s goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Alex Cristerna Oleta (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the game with two saves in 80 minutes of play. Sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) played the final 10 minutes and had no saves. The Aztecs had 11 shots on goal.
The Aztecs will play at Mesa Community College on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
