Castaneda’s hat trick highlights five unanswered goals as Men’s Soccer rallies to beat Chandler-Gilbert CC

(Chandler, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (2-0, 2-0 in ACCAC) rallied from a two-goal deficit to pick up another road win on Tuesday at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (0-2, 0-2).

Freshman Jose Castaneda (Nogales HS) produced a hat trick in the second half as the No. 5 ranked Aztecs scored five unanswered in the second half to win 5-2.

Castaneda put Pima on the board in the 55th minute with an assist from freshman Florian Traebert. He tied the game five minutes later with his second goal that was assisted by freshman Sebastian Guzman (Flowing Wells HS). Castaneda netted the final goal of the game in the 85th minute as sophomore Missael Montilla (Tucson Magnet HS) got credit for the assist.

With the score tied at 2-2, sophomore D’Andre Pickett (Tucson Magnet HS) put Pima up for good with his goal in the 65th minute. Fellow sophomore Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) got the assist. Ruiz wasn’t finished as he scored to put the Aztecs up 4-2 in the 80th minute.

The Coyotes scored their goals in the 4th minute and in the 50th minute.

The Aztecs finished with 20 shots on goal. Sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) had no saves.

The Aztecs will host their home opener on Saturday against Paradise Valley Community College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. at the West Campus Aztec Field.
