(Scottsdale, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (1-0, 1-0 in ACCAC) opened the 2024 season on Sunday with a road win at Scottsdale Community College (0-1, 0-1).
The No. 5 ranked Aztecs scored two goals in each half to beat the Artichokes 4-1.
Sophomore Ismael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) put the Aztecs ahead 2-0 with his goal with under four minutes left in the half. He found the back of the net again in the 63rd minute with an assist from fellow sophomore Brandon Sanchez (Canyon del Oro HS) to make it 3-0.
Sophomore Missael Montilla (Tucson Magnet HS) scored Pima’s final goal in the 76th minute.
Freshman Jihoon Song put the Aztecs on the scoreboard in the 8th minute with an assist from sophomore Jacob Lund-Iversen.
The Artichokes erased the shutout with a goal by Hector Monge in the 78th minute.
The Aztecs finished with 15 shots on goal while the Artichokes had one. Sophomore Jose Carlos Ortiz (Barca Academy) had one save.
The Aztecs head back out on the road on Tuesday when they play at Chandler-Gilbert Community College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
