Women’s Hoops Adds Former DI Player Harvey to Coaching Staff

(Gilbert, AZ)  Park University Gilbert Women’s Basketball Head Coach Ben York has announced the hiring of Leya Harvey as an assistant coach.

 “I am incredibly excited to add Leya to our talented coaching staff,” York said. “Her experience at the Division I level will be invaluable to our young, growing team. More importantly, Coach Harvey has an upbeat, energetic and team-first mentality that resonates with our players.”

Harvey joins the Buccaneer Women’s Basketball program after a successful college playing career at Division I Utah Valley where she played her freshman and sophomore seasons playing in 55 games, starting 14. The 6-1 West Jordan, Utah native averaged 4.1 points and 4.2 rebounds, averaging 18 minutes a game while shooting 43 percent from the floor.  She had a career high 17 points against Missouri-Kansas City and 11 rebounds versus Southern Utah her sophomore season in 2017-18.

She then transferred to Division II Metro State University of Denver where she played one season, playing in 26 games starting 17. She averaged 6.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game playing an average of 16 minutes per game and shooting 46 percent from the floor.

Prior to joining Park, Harvey was an assistant girls basketball coach at Desert Ridge High School in Mesa, Ariz.

 Harvey prepped at Bingham High School in West Jordan and was named to the 5A all-state second team and all-region first team during her senior season.
