Five Aztec Men’s Track & Field athletes secure All-American honors

(West Monroe, LA)  The Pima Community College men’s track & field team closed out the second day of competition at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Friday at Brown Stadium.

The Aztecs are in the top 10 in the team standings after the second day with a score of 18.5 points.

Freshmen Nathaniel Curtiss (Rincon/University HS) and Tyler Rogers gained 9.5 points in the High Jump. Curtiss took third place with a jump of 2.07 meters (6-feet, 9.50-inches) earning six points. He cleared it on his third and final attempt. He fell short at 2.12 meters (6-11.50). Curtiss is second in the Pima Outdoor school records as he cleared 2.16 meters (7-1) last month at the Triton Invitational and earned the Region I crown earlier this month.
Rogers finished in a four-way tie for 4th place with a jump of 2.02 meters (6-7.50) earning 3.5 points. He cleared the bar in his first attempt but fell short at 2.07 meters (6-9.50). Rogers cleared his personal and season- best of 2.10 meters (6-10.75) at the NJCAA Indoor National Championships claiming the national title.

Freshman Adam McCoy earned NJCAA All-American status when he took fifth place in the Pole Vault. He matched his personal and season-best with a vault of 4.67 meters (15-feet, 3.75-inches) that he cleared at the Region I Championships. He won the region title with that feat.

Sophomore Jacob Acedo (Gila Ridge HS) earned seventh place in the Decathlon with 5993 points as he earned two team points while sophomore Broden Cahoon took eighth place with 5977 points gaining one team point. Acedo and Cahoon both earned NJCAA All-American honors for their finishes.

Other Pima finishes in the second day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships:

  • Dillon Arvayo (Mountain View HS) – 9th place in the Decathlon 5975 points.
  • Elijah Conroy (Rincon HS) – 21st place in 3,000 steeplechase 9:53.85.

The Aztecs close out the 2024 season on Saturday in the final day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships in West Monroe, LA.
