The Pima Community College volleyball team (3-3, 2-0 in ACCAC) scored a major upset in its home opener on Friday at the Pima West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The Aztecs rallied to beat the No. 5 ranked Thunderbirds (3-2, 1-1) in five sets 25-17, 16-25, 19-25, 25-20, 15-9.
The Aztecs rallied off four straight points in the tiebreaker to take an 8-3 advantage and never relinquished less than a four point lead.
Freshman Kendall Deeter (Mountain View HS) put down the final kill to seal it.
Freshman Madi Nash (Sahuaro HS) finished the match with a team-high 15 kills and 24 digs. Fellow freshman Jade Romine (Canyon del Oro HS) had eight kills and 19 digs.
Deeter was a force at the net as she finished with nine blocks and five kills. Freshman Kaleigh Hockett (Desert Mountain HS) posted 38 assists.
The Aztecs will return to the Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday to host Yavapai College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
