(Tempe, AZ) Senior day was a success for No. 13 Sun Devil Beach Volleyball, with the Sand Devils sweeping Ottawa 5-0 behind the efforts of all four seniors.
Arizona State (19-7) defeated Ottawa (18-9) by sweeping all five courts. The team inched closer to the program record for win totals, which is 21 set in 2019.
“It’s just amazing to see what they’ve done for the program and how they’ve grown as beach volleyball players, as individuals, and they’re leaving a legacy here,” said head coach Kristen Rohr.
Seniors Ivey Weber and Kate Fitzgerald both made their season debuts. Weber competed in wave one in the number four pair with Ava Haughy. The pair swept 21-7 and 21-17. Fitzgerald competed in pair five with junior Riley Kael. Fitzgerald and Kael battled hard in the first set and won 21-19 and had a breezy 21-6 win in set two. Season-long senior duo of Taryn Ames and Lexi Sweeny had a smooth two sets, winning 21-10 and 21-4.
“I feel like this senior night was really different because I know this is it and I was with one of my best friends. So it was a big deal,” said Sweeney.
Duos one and two were the only pairs without a senior competing. Both courts swept their matches as well, including a dominating 21-3 first-set win from Daniella Kensinger and Ava Williamson on court one.
