Curtiss moves to second in school history in High Jump, Madrigal-Diaz and Crane earn national qualifiers

(La Jolla, CA)  The No. 3 ranked Pima Community College men’s and women’s track & field teams competed at the Triton Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the University of California San Diego in La Jolla, CA.

In men’s competition, freshman Nathaniel Curtiss (Rincon/University HS) moved to the second spot in Pima school history after he cleared 2.16 meters (7-feet, 1-inch) in the High Jump. He took first place in the event. Curtiss surpassed Eddie Wilcox’s jump of 2.15 meters (7-0.5) that he cleared in 2013. Curtiss aims for Samuel Shoultz’s Pima Outdoor record of 2.18 meters (7-1.75) that was set in 2016.

Freshman Louis Madrigal-Diaz (North Canyon HS) set an NJCAA national qualifying time in the 1,500-meter race at 3 minutes, 58.77 seconds.

Freshman Jordan Cortner improved on his national qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles for the second straight week as he finished with a time of 54.34. He set his qualifier last week at the ACCAC Championships at 54.36.

In women’s competition, freshman Tayler Crane earned a national qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles. She finished with a time of 1:05.01 and is now eighth on the Pima Outdoor school record list.

 The Aztecs will compete at the Gaucho Invitational on Friday in Glendale and the Mesa Outdoor Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Mesa.
