(Mesa, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (15-3, 7-3 in ACCAC) got back in the win column on Saturday at Mesa Community College (4-13, 2-9).
The No. 19 ranked Aztecs snapped a two-game skid after beating the Thunderbirds 91-62.
The Aztecs used a 15-4 run to take their first double digit lead of the game at 22-11. They started the game going 4 for 4 from three-point range with two each from sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) and freshman Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS).
Pima took their biggest lead in the first half with a pair of free throws from Gonzales to make it 48-27. The Aztecs led 51-32 at the break.
They opened the second half with sophomore Jaylen Alexander finding freshman Gabe Oldham on inside passes for buckets on back-to-back possessions. Pima continued with 6-0 and 7-0 runs in the second half and held their biggest lead of the game at 76-47.
Oldham finished the game going 8 for 8 from the field and 8 for 10 from the free throw line as he posted a game-high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore Toate Sika (Rincon HS) made an impact off the bench as he finished with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds (six offensive) and two steals.
Baker scored all 14 of his points in the first half as he finished 5 for 7 from the field. Gonzales added 13 points as he was 4 for 6 from the floor.
The Aztecs are back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday when they host No. 12 Chandler-Gilbert Community College. It will be the third meeting between the two teams during the regular season. The Coyotes have bested the Aztecs in both games. Pima fell 79-69 in Chandler on Dec. 13 and lost 80-71 at the Aztec Gym on Jan. 10.
