Aztecs Men’s Basketball uses early second half run to topple PHH Prep

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s basketball team closed out play in the Pima Fall Invitational on Saturday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.

The Aztecs used a second half run to maintain a double-digit lead and beat PHH Prep 103-89 closing out the invitational with a 3-0 record. The Aztecs averaged 121 points and beat their opponents by an average margin of almost 40 points.

Up 45-33 at halftime, the Aztecs used a 15-4 run in the first four minutes of the second half to take a 60-37 lead. The Aztecs led by as much as 25 points and PHH Prep could not close in with single digits.

Sophomore Jalen Alexander scored a team-high 26 points on 12 for 16 shooting and also had four rebounds and four assists. He went 25 for 32 (.781) from the field over the last three games.

Freshman Gabe Oldham produced a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds as he went 7 for 9 shooting and 7 for 10 from the foul line. He had two double-doubles this week and averaged 21.3 points and 9.3 rebounds.

Sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) went 4 for 8 from three-point range and posted 18 points to go along with three steals, two rebounds and two assists. Freshman Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) scored 16 points on 5 for 7 shooting and 3 for 5 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Zach Williamson finished with eight points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

The Aztecs will open ACCAC conference play on Tuesday, Nov. 21 when they host Phoenix College at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
