(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (3-0) scored in the triple digits for the third straight game as it beat Wenatchee Valley College on Friday in the second day of the Pima Fall Invitational.
The Aztecs defeated the Knights 133-74 at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The Aztecs went on an 11-0 run to take a 36-23 lead with 10:34 left in the first half. The Aztecs led 72-43 at halftime.
Pima proceeded to outscore Wenatchee Valley College 61-31 in the second half.
Sophomore Jaylen Alexander finished with a game-high 22 points on 9 for 11 shooting along with five rebounds, two assists and four steals.
Freshman Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) added 21 points as he went 8 for 14 from the field and 5 for 8 from three-point range. He also had five assists and two steals.
Sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) scored 16 of his 18 points in the first half as he also finished with six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Freshman Gabe Oldham shot 6 for 8 from the field and finished with 16 points.
Sophomores Yahir Garcia (Tucson Magnet HS) and Tanner Poeschl (Skyline HS) scored in double figures off the bench. Garcia had 11 points as he went 3 for 4 from three-point range and Poeschl posted 10 points.
The Aztecs went 50 for 79 (.633) from the field and drained 15 3-pointers.
The Aztecs will close out play in the Pima Invitational on Saturday when they host PHH Prep. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
