Arizona will see one FloSoftball National Player of the Year take the circle as a senior this year. Taylor McQuillin will be joined by a freshman who just garnered the same honor. Incoming pitcher and power hitter Marissa Schuld was announced as the 2018 national player of the year by the same media outlet today.
Although Schuld pitched fewer innings this year than any time since her freshman campaign, she ended the season with a 0.74 ERA and 151 strikeouts while she helped her team to a state 6A title.
At the plate, she put up a .574 average in 115 at-bats on 132 plate appearances. Her 16 home runs came courtesy of a 1.252 slugging percentage to go along with a 1.878 OPS.
Most importantly, Chez Sievers of FloSoftball notes, she finished the last game of her season a winner. While she struggled with injury this season, when her team needed her, she was there to help them defeat Chandler Hamilton and bring home the trophy. Hamilton was the two-time defending champion.

Schuld has been the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year for the past two years. She has also been named a MaxPreps All-American.
Over her four-year varsity career, she put up an ERA of 1.38 in 401.1 innings pitched. She struck out 617, while giving up an opposing batting average of .173.
On the offensive side of the game, she ended her career with a .470 batting average in 430 at-bats over 140 games. She batted in 177 runs and hit 37 home runs.
