Miller and Smith Named NAIA Scholar Athletes

(Gilbert, AZ)  Park University Gilbert men’s volleyball players Hunter Miller and Nathan Smith have been named NAIA National Scholar Athletes for the 2023 season. To be considered for the award, you must be at least a sophomore with one year at your institution and a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Miller, who has been a three-year starter at setter for the Buccaneers boasts a 3.9 GPA in Criminal Justice. The senior is the all-time leader in assists in Bucs history and has posted five matches with 40 or more assists with a career high 47 assists against Saint Katherine in 2022.

Smith, a senior, has been with the men’s volleyball program since its inception in 2020. He has a 3.88 GPA in Sport and Exercise Science. This was his first year as a full-time starter and he took full advantage starting every game and recording a kill in every contest. He set career single game highs for kills (7) and hitting percentage (.444) and also set a single season high for kills with 66.

Both players have the option to return in 2024 if they choose to do so with additional seasons available due to the pandemic.
