Courtney Earns Pac-12 Wrestler of the Year

(San Francisco, CA)  Sun Devil Wrestling’s Brandon Courtney is this season’s Pac-12 Wrestler of the Year, the conference announced today. Courtney went 16-5 during the 2022-23 season (5-2 in duals) en route to earning the honor. He became ASU’s fifth four-time All-American after finishing third at the 2023 NCAA Championships, and he ends his career as a three-time conference champion with a 109-28 record. Courtney’s honor is the 22nd time an ASU wrestler has received the honor, and it’s the second consecutive season a Sun Devil earned Pac-12 WOTY as Cohlton Schultz picked it up in 2022.

Courtney ends his Sun Devil wrestling career as one of the most dominant wrestlers to ever touch the program. He strung together a 80-15 record over the last four seasons, finishing third in the nation at 125 in 2023, sixth in 2022, and as the runner-up in 2021. The Goodyear, Arizona, native also earned NWCA Scholar All-America honors in 2022. Courtney earned his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies with a focus in personal health and communication in the fall of 2021, and he’ll complete his masters in liberal studies this summer.

Courtney’s 2022-23 highlights:
– 16-5 season record (5-2 duals); 109-28 in his career
– Third place finish at the NCAA Championships (125), runner-up finish at the Pac-12 Championships
– Knocked off No. 17 Brett Ungar (7-4) and No. 11 Brandon Kaylor (10-5) during the regular season.
– Reached the 100 win milestone witha. 16-8 major decision over Little Rock’s Jeremiah Reno on February 3rd.
