(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert men’s and women’s golf teams took to the links for the third time this fall at the Redhawk Rumble hosted by Benedictine Mesa at the Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.

The men struggled to a total score of 309 after 18 holes which put them in 10th place in the 11-team field.

The women looked to have their first team score of the year, but Taylor Gransen was unable to play at the last second, so the Buc women would just have three individual scores for the day.

The men’s team score was 25-over par which put the Bucs 27 shots behind Rocky Mountain College who shot a first round two-under 282.  Freshman Noah Blaickner posted the best score of the day for Park, shooting a four-over 75 on the par 71 course.  Blaickner had three birdies and only one double bogey on the day.  He sits tied for 27th place.

Newcomer Melwin Heyne Sundqvist shot a one-under 35 on the opening nine but a triple and double bogey on 10 and 11 marred an otherwise spectacular round that saw the freshman post three birdies in his first collegiate start. Sundqvist shot a five-over 76. He is in a tie for 34th.

Josh Smith and Max Callerman both shot 79 for the first round and Gunnar Hurt posted an 80.

On the ladies side, Sammie Quilter shot a 94 while freshman Grace Soto shot 101 in her first collegiate round and JC transfer Tabitha Bitter shot 105.  Quilter is in 21st place, while Soto and Bitter are in 24th and 25th respectively.

The final round of this 36-hole tournament will start tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m.
