(Coolidge, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s cross country team competed in the NJCAA Region I/ACCAC Championships on Saturday at Central Arizona College.
The Aztecs took second place in Region I, Division I with a score of 45 points but finished in fourth place among the ACCAC conference field with 114 points.
Sophomore Johnathon Lane (Walden Grove HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs as he completed the 8K race in sixth place with a time of 26 minutes, 48.2 seconds. He placed 18th among ACCAC competitors.
Freshman Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) crossed the finish line at 27:02.3 while fellow freshman Justin VanDeberg (Gila Ridge HS) closed it out at 27:23.0.
Freshman Russell Bauer-Woodman (Marana HS) finished the race with a time of 27:56.2 and freshman Nathan Plant clocked out at 28:33.0.
Sophomore Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) closed out the race with a time of 28:44.5. Freshman Donny Speas finished with a time of 29:22.4.
Lane, Valenzuela, VanDeberg, Bauer-Woodman, Plant and Speas all earned All-Region I, Division I honors as the top 14 in the race secured the spots.
The Aztecs will compete at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Saturday, November 12 held at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, FL. The race is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m. Tucson time.
