(Tucson, AZ) Pima Community College men’s cross country runner Joel Gardner (Ironwood Ridge HS) had a great showing at the Dave Murray Invitational hosted by the University of Arizona last Saturday and was rewarded for his efforts by the ACCAC Conference.
Gardner, a sophomore, was named ACCAC Runner of the Week. He completed the 8000-meter race with a personal-best time of 25 minutes, 08.2 seconds taking 18th place out of 54 competitors. He averaged 5:03.4 per mile.
Pima was the only junior college school to compete in a field of NCAA Division I programs, which included the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, New Mexico State University and the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP).
The Aztecs will compete in the ACCAC/NJCAA Region I Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Central Arizona College in Coolidge. The races are set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
