(Phoenix, AZ)  After 11 years at the helm of the Grand Canyon baseball program, Andy Stankiewicz has taken the position of head coach at the University of Southern California.

A national search to find GCU’s next baseball head coach is underway.

“It is difficult to put into words the past 11 years,” Stankiewicz said. “I have felt every emotion possible but none stronger than pride and gratefulness. I can’t thank President Brian Mueller and (VP of Athletics) Jamie Boggs enough for their leadership and trust and each player and coach for their loyalty and dedication. GCU Baseball is healthy and strong, and to think I may have played a small part in that is humbling. But now it’s time to start another chapter in my coaching career. Thank you, GCU, and Lopes up.”

Stankiewicz guided GCU to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances the last two years and won five WAC regular-season championships. The Lopes were a top-25 program for the final three weeks of the 2022 regular season and earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament.

“We are thankful to Coach Stankiewicz for his role in building our nationally competitive baseball program” Boggs said. “As much as we appreciate his accomplishments on the field, we also appreciate the high character person he has been off the field. The level of success we can have here is limitless with our state-of-the-art facilities and the university’s commitment to baseball. We expect a highly competitive pool of candidates that will continue the proud tradition of GCU Baseball.”
