(Tempe, AZ)   Sun Devil Soccer will appear on Pac-12 Networks seven times in 2022 as head coach Graham Winkworth announced the team’s 2022 schedule on Wednesday.

“This is always such an exciting day for all the players and staff,” said Winkworth. “The team worked so hard in the off season but ultimately it’s the games that really excite everyone.

“We cannot wait for August to arrive, see the fans again and hopefully send them home happy after watching some exciting soccer. This is a great schedule. The non-conference has teams that made the playoffs including opening night which will be fun. Obviously, the Pac-12 is incredible and so there will be some wonderful footballers on display all year. Please come out to support us!”

ASU will appear on Pac-12 Networks seven times in 2022:

  • vs. South Dakota State (opening night on Aug. 18)
  • vs. Hawaii (Aug. 21)
  • vs. Pepperdine (Sept. 8)
  • at USC (Oct. 9)
  • vs. Utah (Oct. 14)
  • at Washington State (Oct. 20)
  • vs. Arizona (Nov. 4).

Included in ASU’s schedule are six contests against teams that qualified for last season’s NCAA Tournament: South Dakota State, Pepperdine, Stanford, UCLA, USC, and Washington State.

ASU will be led by 2021 NCAA scoring leader Nicole Douglas who earned Third-Team All-America honors and was one 13 players named to the All-Pac-12 First Team in 2021. Douglas is coming campaign in which she set the single-season school records for goals (19) and points (45). Douglas, who was the program’s first All-American since 2002, led the nation in goals (19), goals per game (0.95) and points per game (2.25). Currently with 46 career goals and 109 career points, Douglas stands in position to become the school’s career leader in both categories in 2022 as she trails only ASU Hall of Famer Stacey Tullock (50 career goals, 125 career points in both categories).

As a team, the Sun Devils went 10-7-2, 2-6-2 Pac-12 last season and have now posted a double-digit win total twice (2018 and 2021) in the last four seasons and that does not include the 9-6-2 record that was good enough to earn them a berth in in the 2020 NCAA Tournament. Douglas broke ASU Hall of Famer Stacey Tullock’s 22-year-old school record for most goals in a season when she scored her 18th in the game’s 74th minute. Combined with her assist in the fourth minute of play, the goal gave Douglas 42 points for the season, one more than Tullock’s final number of 41 in 1999. Also getting in on the record-breaking act was Eva van Deursen whose two assists in Sunday’s win gave her 10 for the season propelling her into the program’s top spot for most assists in a season (previous record of nine was set by Manya Makoski in 2002).

Thurs., Oct. 20 – at Washington State / 14-3-4, 7-1-3 Pac-12 in 2021
Down 2-0 after 30 minutes of game time in last season’s contest vs. WSU, ASU was faced with this task: To get any kind of result they would have to score two goals against the nation’s top team in goals-against average and the top goalkeeper in goals-against average.
