(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s golf team closed out the third round of play at the NJCAA Region I, Division I Championships with its best showing yet.
The Aztecs shot a collective 5-under par 279 (season-best) on the day as they have a three-day total of 855 (285-291-279). Pima holds a 42-stroke lead over Estrella Mountain Community College (299-303-295-897).
Freshman Daniel Henely (Cienega HS) took the lead in the individual standings as he shot a 4-under par 67 in Saturday’s round. He sits with a three-day total of 212 (73-72-67).
Freshman Max Krueger (Salpointe Catholic HS) closed out his third round with an even-par score of 71. He is 2-strokes back from Henely with a score of 214 (69-74-71).
Freshman Jay Shero is tied for third place with a 216 (73-72-71) while freshman Tommy Rosenvall shot his best round tournament and sits with a 217 (74-73-70).
Freshman AJ Quihuis (Salpointe Catholic HS) is in seventh place with a 224 (70-78-76).
Though they are playing in different Region I tournaments, the Aztecs have outscored South Mountain Community College, the top ACCAC team, in two of the three rounds. The Cougars lead the Region I, Division II team standings (294-276-293-853). They were undefeated in the team standings during the regular season.
The Aztecs close out play in the NJCAA Region I, Division I Tournament on Sunday at the Corte Bella Golf Course. Teams begin to tee off at 12:40 p.m.
