Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College softball team (31-17, 22-16 in ACCAC) struggled to manufacture runs on Saturday in an ACCAC Division I match-up at Eastern Arizona College (39-8, 30-6).
The Aztecs scored two runs for the day but finished with 19 hits. Sophomore Megan Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) was 3 for 6.
Game 1: Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 9, Pima CC Aztecs 1 (6 innings): The Gila Monsters jumped to an early lead and the Aztecs could not recover.
Eastern Arizona took a 5-0 lead after scoring three runs in the 1st inning and two runs in the 2nd. The Aztecs got on the board in the 4th inning. Maria Vanezza Caldera (Tucson HS) hit a triple, which was followed by Sarrah Jones’ RBI single.
The Aztecs had 11 hits for the game and stranded 10 runners on base.
Caldera finished 3 for 3 with a run scored while Jones went 2 for 3 with an RBI. Freshman Alese Casper was 2 for 4 and Flores went 1 for 3.
Sophomore Sierra Gentry took the loss (5-4) as she pitched two innings giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Game 2: Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 6, Pima CC Aztecs 1: The Gila Monsters broke the game open with four runs in the 5th inning.
The Aztecs loaded the bases in the 3rd inning with no outs but a pop-out, an out on an appeal at third base and a groundout end the threat.
Casper scored the only run of the game for the Aztecs in the 7th inning. She finished 1 for 4 with a run scored and a double. Sophomore Chandler Arviso (Cibola HS) went 3 for 4 while Flores was 2 for 3.
Casper took the loss (9-8) as she pitched six innings giving up six runs (four earned) on 12 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Softball Field on Tuesday when they host Scottsdale Community College. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
