[Phoenix, AZ) The Arizona Rattlers have re-signed defensive back Montavious Atkinson for the upcoming 2022 Indoor Football League season.
DB Montavious Atkinson (6’1, 205, University of Auburn) returns to the Rattlers for his second IFL season. Atkinson played eight games during his 2021 rookie season, registering 41 total tackles, 25 solo, and one interception. Montavious suffered a season-ending injury on July 24th vs. Sioux Falls.
Atkinson played collegiately for the University of Auburn, appearing in 49 games for the Tigers. Over four seasons (2015-2018), he compiled 117 tackles, seven for a loss, and 1.5 sacks. After playing 10 games at free safety for Auburn during his freshman season, Atkinson made the transition to linebacker for the remainder of his college career. Montavious recorded five tackles as a sophomore in the 2017 Sugar Bowl vs. Oklahoma.
A native of Fairburn, Georgia, Atkinson attended Langston Hughes High School, where he posted 137 tackles in both his senior and junior years. A four-year starter, Atkinson totaled 531 career tackles and seven interceptions. Montavious was first-team all-region as both a senior and junior, in addition to being GSWA all-state, PrepStar all-South, and AJC all-area.
The Rattlers will play eight regular-season home games at Footprint Center, beginning in March 2022. The 16-game regular season runs through July, with the IFL playoffs scheduled to begin in late July.
