Wildcat Junior, Taylor McQuillin took tonight’s game by storm recording eight strikeouts, and only giving up a blooper to shallow left field. Thursday’s game was recorded as McQuillin’s ninth one-hit shutout and third against a nationally ranked team.
Assisting in the Cats’ 3-0 victory was Senior Ashleigh Hughes. Hughes, batting second in the lineup in place of Reyna Carranco who’s out with concussion, had three singles and had three stolen bases.
Freshman Jenna Kean entered Thursday’s game without an RBI on the season. With a runner in scoring position, Kean brought her home for Arizona’s first run and her first career RBI.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Junior Tamara Statman walked and Jaycee Lindley came in to pinch run. Lindley worked herself to third. Kean bright in the run on a sacrifice fly to left field putting the Cats up 2-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Hughes would lead off with her third single of the game and advanced to third base. Malia Martinez hit a ground ball and was thrown out but Hughes’ speed allowed her to score. That wrapped up the scoring for Arizona and the win.
