Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College baseball team (15-17, 7-15 in ACCAC) fell in its ACCAC conference doubleheader against No. 15 South Mountain Community College on Saturday at the West Campus Baseball Field.
Sophomore Jesus Solis (Nogales HS) and freshman Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS) had productive days at the plate. Solis went 5 for 7 with an RBI and two runs scored. Porchas finished the day 4 for 8 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Game 1: (15) South Mountain CC Cougars 18, Pima CC Aztecs 4 (7 innings): The Aztecs surrendered 10 runs in the 1st inning and got on the scoreboard in the later innings.
Solis hit an RBI double and freshman Fabian Ferreira (Tucson HS) followed with an RBI triple. Ferreira scored on an error.
Porchas finished 3 for 4 with an RBI while Solis went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Freshman Elisandro Diaz (Salpointe Catholic HS) went 2 for 2 with two runs scored.
Sophomore Jose Contreras (Tucson HS) took the loss (4-4) as he started the game and didn’t get an out in the 1st inning. He gave up six runs (six earned) on five hits with one walk.

Game 2: (15) South Mountain CC Cougars 9, Pima CC Aztecs 4: The Aztecs took the lead but the Cougars took over in the later innings.
The Aztecs took the lead at 2-1 in the 3rd inning when Porchas hit a leadoff home run. South Mountain scored three runs in the 5th inning to take a 4-2 lead. In Pima’s 5th inning, freshman Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) hit an RBI double to score sophomore Marcus Merndez (Desert View HS).
Freshman Matthew Hackman (Empire HS) hit an RBI single in the 6th to score Solis to cut the deficit to 7-4 but South Mountain scored two runs in the 7th to maintain their lead.
Freshman Michael Wong suffered the loss (2-4) after he pitched four and two-third innings giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits with one.

The Aztecs will play at Eastern Arizona College on Tuesday in Thatcher. First game starts at noon.
