(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (12-4, 7-3 in ACCAC) closed out the 2021 regular season on Saturday against Arizona Western College (10-4-2, 5-3-2).
The No. 9 ranked Aztecs gave up three unanswered goals and fell to the Matadors 3-1.
The Aztecs got on the board when sophomore Alyssa Kopach (Ironwood Ridge HS) scored in the 81st minute.
Jaeda Centeno had a hat trick for the Matadors with goals in the 38th, 52nd and 65th minutes.
The Aztecs finished with seven shots on goal. Sophomore Angelina Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HS) closed out the game with seven saves.
The Aztecs will be the No. 2 seed at next week’s NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament. They will host No. 3 seeded Scottsdale Community College in the semifinals on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Soccer Field part of the Chapman Automotive Sports Complex. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
Before the game, the Aztecs recognized departing sophomores Kaitlyn Bassett (Sabino HS), Saydee Guzman (Cienega HS), Litycia Espinoza (Sahuarita HS), Alyssa Kopach (Ironwood Ridge HS), Dulcenella Yebra (Tucson Magnet HS), Kortney Cahill (Cienega HS), Twyla Himmel (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Seti Valencia (Sunnyside HS)
