(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (4-0) found itself trailing in the first half but recovered quickly on Tuesday against Chandler-Gilbert Community College (1-2).
The No. 7 ranked Aztecs defeated the Coyotes 4-1 after scoring four unanswered goals to take control.
The Coyotes got on the board first with a goal by Aaliyah Flores in the 27th minute but the Aztecs tied the game four minutes later when sophomore Kaitlyn Bassett (Sabino HS) scored in the box with an assist from sophomore Alyssa Kopach (Ironwood Ridge HS). The score remained tied 1-1 at halftime.
The Aztecs took a 2-1 advantage when freshman Marilyn McFeaters (Palo Verde HS) scored on a shot in the 66th minute that was set up by sophomore Litycia Espinoza (Sahuarita HS).
The Aztecs added two more insurance goals late in the second half. Sophomore Seti Valencia (Sunnyside HS) made it 3-1 with her goal in the 76th minute that was assisted by freshman Alexus Mendez (Tucson Magnet HS) and freshman Delaney Buntin (Cienega HS) netted her goal with an assist by sophomore Nayeli Vidal (Sahuaro HS) in the 85th minute.
The Aztecs finished with 11 shots on goal and the defense held the Coyotes to two shots on goal. Sophomore Angelina Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HS) had one save.
The Aztecs will hit the road on Saturday when they play at Scottsdale Community College at 5:30 p.m.
