(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (1-1) dropped a tough game on Thursday in its home opener against Cochise College (1-1) at the West Campus Aztec Soccer Field.
The No. 10 ranked Aztecs lost in double overtime 4-3 to the Apaches in a back-and-forth battle.
The Aztecs had a chance to score in overtime when freshman Nayeli Vidal (Sahuaro HS) had a one-on-one with the Cochise goalkeeper but couldn’t convert on the opportunity.
The game was scoreless until the Apaches scored in the 64th minute. The Aztecs countered with sophomore Emma Franzone (Sahuarita HS), who scored in the 70th minute.
The Aztecs took a 2-1 lead when freshman Kaitlyn Bassett (Sabino HS) netted her goal in the 73rd minute with an assist from freshman Alejandra Ramirez (Marana HS).
Cochise tied it up but the Aztecs retook the lead at 3-2 when sophomore Litycia Espinoza (Sahuarita HS) scored on a pass from sophomore Seti Valencia (Sunnyside HS).
The Aztecs outshot the Apaches 16-6 for the game. Freshman Angelina Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HAS) finished with two saves.
The Aztecs will play at Scottsdale Community College on Saturday. The teams will be on the pitch at 7:00 p.m.
