(Phoenix, AZ) Grand Canyon University announced on Thursday that it has parted ways with Head Men’s Basketball Coach Dan Majerle.
“We have made the decision to move in a new direction with our men’s basketball program.” GCU President Brian Mueller said. “We wish Coach Majerle the best of luck in his future endeavors.”
“GCU has become a premier mid-major basketball destination with its resources, facilities, and student and community support,” GCU Strategic Advisor and Phoenix sports icon Jerry Colangelo said. “We look forward to the future of the program under the direction of the new head coach.”
In GCU’s three seasons of Division I post-season eligibility, the men’s basketball program has finished third in both 2017-18 and 2018-19 regular season standings while ending this season in a fifth-place tie with a 13-17 (8-8 conference) record.
Associate Head Coach Marvin Menzies has been appointed as GCU’s interim head coach, effective immediately, and Assistant Coach Isaac Chew remains on staff as well.
