(San Francisco, CA)  In her first season at Arizona State, head coach Kristen Rohr is the first Pac-12 Coach of the Year in Sun Devil Beach Volleyball history after leading the team to a historic season. Sophomore Daniella Kensinger was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team for her efforts on the top court all season.

Not only is Rohr the first coach in team history to win Pac-12 Coach of the Year, but this is the first time in Pac-12 history that the indoor volleyball and beach volleyball coaches of the year were from the same school. Sun Devil Volleyball’s JJ Van Niel won in the fall, also a first-year Sun Devil head coach. She was previously named the 2022 AVCA National Coach of the year. Kensinger is the 10th Sand Devil to earn All-Pac-12 honors, the second year in a row ASU has been represented on the list.

Rohr has led the Sand Devils to an incredible season in her first season in Tempe. She guided the team to their first NCAA Championships appearance in team history, earning a No. 12 seed as an at-large bid. In her ninth season overall as a head coach, she helped the squad compile a 21-9 record, which is tied for the most wins in ASU history. ASU has raked in 11 ranked wins this season, the previous record was held at three during the 2019 season. Before this season, there were 13 total ranked wins in the team’s history. All of this was accomplished with a roster made up of 10 newcomers and 11 returners.

The awards keep coming for Kensinger as earlier on Wednesday, she was named an AVCA Second Team All-American. She has had a strong year for Arizona State, playing on the top court all season and earning a 19-11 record. At the ones, she has earned wins over pairs from the following ranked teams: FAU, Stanford, Stetson, Grand Canyon, Washington, Arizona and Cal. She started the season paired with junior Anya Pemberton before freshman Ava Williamson moved up to play with Kensinger about halfway through the season.

Arizona State is set to compete in the NCAA Championships this Friday against Cal Poly at 8 a.m. MST/10 a.m. CDT on ESPNU.
