(Tempe, AZ)  Arizona State lacrosse (8-9, 3-4) ended their 2024 regular season on Saturday with a bang in the 21-11 victory over UC Davis (9-7, 2-5) at home on Senior Day. The Sun Devils dominated on both sides of the ball and took control of the game in the opening frame thanks to a six-goal first quarter. With the win, ASU secured a spot in the Pac-12 Tournament that will take place May 1-4 in Los Angeles, California.

Senior attacker Mina Scott, who had a career-high six goals in the win, was one of four Sun Devils to tally a hat trick, including: sophomore attackers Lydia Oldknow and Teagan Ng and junior attacker Anna Thornton. The trio also combined for six assists out of the 10 total assists, which was a single-game high this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Sun Devils scored three goals in the first six minutes to take a commanding lead that they never relinquished. Mina Scott put ASU ahead on a point-blank shot in front of the net just three minutes into the game. ASU extended their lead to two goals at 10:40 after freshman midfielder Anna Viglione rifled a shot past the UC Davis goalkeeper. Less than two minutes later, Thornton put the Sun Devils ahead 3-0. After UC Davis cut the deficit to two, Oldknow and Scott scored 20 seconds apart to give ASU a 5-1 lead. Scott completed her hat trick at 2:01 from a quick shot near the net after receiving a pass from Thornton.

Two minutes into the second quarter, Scott registered her fourth goal of the game to extend the Sun Devil’s lead to 7-1. Oldknow scored her second goal of the day at 6:59 to push ASU’s lead to seven goals. With 4:27 remaining in the half, freshman attacker Emma Heenan snuck a shot past the Aggies netminder from the right side of the goal to give the Sun Devils a 9-1 lead. Oldknow tallied the Sun Devil’s second hat trick of the game, scoring with 2:13 left in the second period to make it 10-2.

The Aggies tallied two goals early in the second half, but the Sun Devils regained their eight-goal advantage each time after Ng scored two goals at 13:23 and 12:03. UC Davis responded with three-consecutive goals to cut the deficit to 12-7. Senior defender Gigi Gaspar halted the Aggies’ run, scoring at 4:28 of the third quarter. Less than a minute later, Scott scored her fifth goal of the day to help the Sun Devils carry a 14-8 lead into the fourth quarter.

Both teams traded early goals in the final period, as Thornton scored her second goal of the day at 12:36 to push ASU’s advantage to 15-9. Ng found the back of the net two minutes later to give the Sun Devils their third hat trick performance of the game. And it was not the last. Thornton fired a shot past the Aggies goalie with 9:10 remaining, becoming the fourth Sun Devil to have a hat trick. Junior midfielder Maddie Riley and senior attacker Rosie Davisscored 30 seconds apart to push ASU’s lead to 19-10. Scott tallied her sixth goal of the day at 3:33. Graduate defender Zoe Mazur scored the game’s final goal with only 12 seconds remaining.
