Sun Devils are the regional’s No. 2 seed and will face San Diego State on Friday
(Tempe, AZ) Sun Devil Softball is headed back to the NCAA Softball Championship for the 34th time in program history after receiving a bid to the Los Angeles Regional. Arizona State will be the No. 2 seed at the regional, and they will begin play on Friday against No. 3 seed San Diego State.
Friday’s game will begin at 7 p.m. AZT and air on ESPN2.
The Sun Devils are 35-19 this season and have earned a regional bid for the first time since 2022. They finished fifth in the Big 12 regular season standings and advanced to the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship.
ASU has an 85-52 record in the Regional round, and the Sun Devils have advanced to the Super Regionals, which began during the 1999 season, 10 times in program history, with the last coming in 2022. The team has reached the Women’s College World Series 19 times overall, including 12 times since softball became an NCAA sport in 1982, with four National Championships.
The Sun Devils lead the all-time series with SDSU 32-8, and they have won the last six meetings. ASU has defeated the Aztecs four times in a Regional. Those came in 2009, 2011, and twice at the 2022 regional, all held in Tempe.
San Diego State qualified as the champions of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The Aztecs will head to Los Angeles with a 37-17 record, having won four straight and eight of their last nine.
UCLA is the host and No. 1 seed of the Los Angeles Regional. They will face No. 4 seed UC Santa Barbara in the first game at 4:30 p.m. AZT on Friday. The double-elimination bracket will feature three games on Saturday, leaving two teams to play in the Region Final on Sunday.
The regional will be played at Easton Stadium on the UCLA campus. All-session tickets for the Los Angeles Regional are officially on sale at this LINK. Gates will open 90 minutes prior to first pitch each day.
The NCAA Selection Committee announced the entire 64-team field on Sunday evening. ASU is one of five teams from the Big 12 to make the field.
