(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s track & field team competed in the first day of the Region I Championships on Tuesday at Mesa Community College.
The No. 9 ranked Aztecs sit in first place with a team score of 95 points. Mesa Community College is in second with 77 and Central Arizona College is third with 73 points.
Sophomore Morgan Pepe (Ironwood Ridge HS) defended her Region crown in the Pole Vault as she took first place with a vault of 3.61 meters (11-feet, 10-inches) on her second attempt earning 10 team points for the Aztecs.
Sophomore Maylee Thompson (Willcox HS) took second place in the Long Jump with a mark of 5.51 meters (18-1) on her fourth attempt earning eight points. Freshman Layla Konski (Ironwood Ridge HS) finished in third place with a jump of 5.40 meters (17-8.75) earning six points.
Freshman Karlee Pope put another eight points on the board for the Aztecs with her second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 13:01.49.
The 4×800 relay team of sophomore Linda Rivero (Desert View HS), freshman Ella Allred (Benson HS), sophomore Alyssa Perez (Agua Fria HS) and Reatta Danhof (Ironwood Ridge HS) placed second with a time of 9:40.36 gaining another eight points.
Other Pima finishes that earned team points:
Morgan Mosley – Fourth place in Hammer Throw 43.67 meters (143-3) (5 points)
Cashlyn Proffitt (Basha HS) – Fourth place in 3,000-meter steeplechase 13:59.46 (5 points).
Hannah Droeg (Casteel HS) – Fifth place in the Javelin 38.76 meters (127-2) (4 points); Eighth place in Long Jump 4.98 meters (16-4.25) (1 point); Eighth place in the Pole Vault 2.41 meters (7-10.75) (1 point).
Thompson (Willcox HS) – Seventh place in Pole Vault 2.86 meters (9-4.50) (2 points); Seventh place in Javelin 35.52 meters (116-10) (2 points)
Armani Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS) – Eighth place in Javelin 32.29 meters (105-11) (1 point).
The Aztecs will compete in the final day of the Region I Championships on Thursday at Mesa Community College.
