(Mesa, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s track & field team came away with its first Region I Team Championship since 2021 as the Aztecs closed out the Region I Championships on Thursday at Mesa Community College.
The No. 9 ranked Aztecs finished with a total of 281 points, their second-highest total in program history, beating out Central Arizona College (195 points) and Mesa Community College (191 points). The Aztecs finished with six individual region titles.
Sophomore Reatta Danhof (Ironwood Ridge HS) secured two more individual Region I Championships (three total including the 10,000 meters last week) as she took first place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:43.59, setting a new personal-record and locking in the No. 2 spot in Pima school history. She also claimed the Region title in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:57.65. She also placed second in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:17.79, setting another PR and taking the No. 3 spot in school history. Danhof finished the meet earning a total of 46 points, which also included the 4×800 relay she participated in.
Sophomore Izzy Green (McClintock HS) claimed the Region crown in the High Jump as she cleared 1.66 meters (5-feet, 5.25-inches) on her first attempt earning 10 team points.
Freshman Tyra Christean earned first place in the 400-meter hurdles (no time available).
Sophomore J’Layah Spellman-Collins took second place in the 400 meters with a time of 57.38 seconds, and also placed second in the 100-meters race at 12.39. She grabbed third place in the 200 meters with a time of 25.15 as she secured 36 points for Pima, which included her participation in the 4×100 and 4×400 relays.
Sophomore April Necaise earned second place in the High Jump with a mark of 1.63 meters (5-4.25). She also secured third place in the Triple Jump at 10.49 meters (34-5) earning 14 points in those events.
Sophomore Tyler Washington finished in second place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.27, earning a personal-best in the event.
The 4×400 relay group of freshman Sofia Cambridge (Page HS), freshman Carissa Hinton, Christean and Spellman-Collins took second place with a time of 4:01.36 earning eight points.
Freshman Layla Konski (Ironwood Ridge HS) finished in second place in the Triple Jump with a mark of 10.97 meters (36-0). She was also part of the 4×100 relay with freshman Hannah Droeg, Julus Youbengue(Catalina HS) and Spellman-Collins as placed third and earned six points with a time of 48.94.
Droeg earned another six points with her third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (no time available).

Aragon (Flowing Wells HS) – Fifth place in 5,000 meters 20:41.11 (4 points)

Ella Allred (Benson HS) – Sixth place in 1,500 meters 4:54.26 (4 points); Eighth place in 800 meters 2:23.97 (1 point)

The Aztecs will compete at the NJCAA Division I National Championships from May 15-17 at Gowan Stadium in Hutchinson, Kansas.
