(San Tan Valley, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert golf team is one shot off the pace after the first round of the Park University Gilbert Shootout at San Tan Highlands Golf Club.

The Buccaneers shot a two-over 286, just one shot behind Benedictine Mesa who shot a 285 on day one. Arizona Christian is four shots behind the Bucs and five behind BENU.

Sophomore Riley Wortman is the individual leader of the tournament after shooting a four-under 67 on the par 71, 6,597 yard course. Wortman is two shots ahead of Eddie Winkleman of Benedictine Mesa.

Senior Eli Cruzan shot an even par 71 to stand in a tie for fourth. Freshman Isaiah Halcomb is in a tie for seventh after carding a one-over 72 which ties his career low round set in the fall at the Park Shootout at Las Colinas GC in Queen Creek.

Sophomore Jax Sisson shot a five-over 76 and sits in 12th while sophomore Cole Taylor shot a 78 and stands in 16th.

The Bucs also had two individual players in the tournament with Josh Jack carding a 79 and Peyton Shields a 92.

The final round of the Park Gilbert Shootout should live up to the billing as the three top team in the tournament all have a shot at winning if they post a solid score tomorrow.

Wortman is looking for his first tournament victory as a Buc. His top finish before today was his third place finish in the Top of Texas tournament in March. He has also posted a fourth place finish in his career. Cruzan is looking to win medalist honors for the second time. Tee times start at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.
