(Tempe, AZ)  Sun Devil Lacrosse (10-6, 3-1) took down San Diego State (5-10, 0-4) behind a season-high 23 goals in the program-record seventh win at home in the 23-12 victory on Saturday. With the win, ASU officially clinched a berth in the inaugural Big 12 Tournament and will be one of four teams competing in Boulder, Colorado May 1-3.

Attackers led the way for ASU as Teagan Ng became the first Sun Devil to surpass the 60-goal mark in a single season following a five-goal performance, and Jordyn Behar claimed the program’s single-season point record after five this afternoon.

Defensively senior goalkeeper Katie Vahle notched 14 saves in net and had her second highest save percentage, 58.3%, in qualified games this season.

How it Happened

ASU got off to a quick start, scoring the first five goals of the game. SDSU responded by scoring the next two to bring the score to 5-2. The Sun Devils were able to add some insurance to their scoring with Bella Ingrao giving them a 6-2 lead to end the quarter. Junior attacker Lydia Oldknow assisted on half of the goals in the frame.

The Aztecs managed to pull within two goals as they brought the score to 6-4 within the first two minutes of the second quarter. ASU then exploded on offense with a 9-0 run to stop any momentum SDSU had. Senior defender Berit Brookfield recorded her first goal as a true defender following the switch from midfield during this run. ASU went into halftime with a 15-7 lead.

ASU pushed forward their momentum in the third quarter. They scored five of the seven goals to extend their lead even further. Jordyn Behar contributed to the scoring by scoring her 31st goal of the season off a free position shot. ASU maintained a strong lead by the score of 20-9 heading into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter was relatively even as both teams netted three goals. The deficit was too much for SDSU, as ASU pulled away with the 23-12 win.
