Reatta Danhof wins the 10,000-meter Region title as Women’s Track earns 34 points to start Region I Championships

(Mesa, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s track & field team opened up the postseason on Monday and Tuesday at the Region I Multi and 10,000-meter Championships at Mesa Community College.

The No. 8 ranked Aztecs finished the first two days with a total of 34 points that will carry over to next week’s competition. Central Arizona College and Mesa Community College are tied for second place each with 21 points.

Sophomore Reatta Danhof (Ironwood Ridge HS) took first place in the 10,000-meter race with a time of 39 minutes, 40.04 seconds as she earned an NJCAA national qualifying time. Her placement earned 10 team points for the Aztecs.
The Aztecs earned a total of 20 team points just for the 10,000-meter race. Sophomore Linda Rivero (Desert View HS) placed fourth with a time of 40:14.18 earning a national qualifying time and securing five points.
Freshman Elexia Aragon (Flowing Wells HS) earned fifth place with a time of 43:07.06 (four points) and fellow freshman Elizabeth Coppola (Pusch Ridge Christian) earned one team point after she took eighth place at 44:32.89.

The Aztecs secured 14 team points in the Heptathlon. Freshman Hannah Droeg (Casteel HS) finished in third place with a total of 4,500 points. Her total moved her to the No. 2 spot in Pima school history overtaking Jackie Trice, who had 4,453 points set in 2023. Droeg placement in the final standings earned six points.
Freshman Layla Konski (Ironwood Ridge HS) closed it out in fifth place with 3,829 points earning three points. Sophomore Tyler Washington was behind her in sixth place with a final score of 3,485 (three points) and fellow sophomore April Necaise was eighth with 3,273 points (one point).

The Aztecs will continue competition at the Region I Championships on Tuesday, April 29 and Thursday, May 1 at Mesa Community College. Events will begin at 5:00 p.m. each day.
