(Davis, CA) Sun Devil Lacrosse (9-6, 2-1) faced an early 3-1 deficit in Saturday’s contest, but two scoring runs totaling 14 goals pushed the team to a 20-11 win over UC Davis (5-8, 1-2) to secure another Big 12 win. Attacker Teagan Ng made history with her program record 59th goal of the season in the ninth win of the season, which ties the 2024 win total with two games remaining.
Sun Devil attackers had a day against UC Davis’s reigning Big 12 Goalie of the week, as the trio in Ng, Lydia Oldknow, and Jordyn Behar combined for 14 goals.
How it Happened
The Sun Devils opened the game with an early goal from Teagan Ng. Three straight draw controls led to three straight goals for UC Davis, and ASU was facing a 3-1 deficit just six minutes into the game. The visitors went on a six-goal run to end the quarter, and led 7-3 after one.
ASU tallied two more goals early in the second frame to add to its scoring run before the Aggies with two goals of their own, just 30 seconds apart. Both Ng and Oldknow had recorded hat tricks minutes into the second quarter. The Sun Devils tacked the goals right back on, scoring six of the last seven goals in the second to take a 16-6 lead into halftime.
Both teams traded two goals in the defensive third quarter, as Regan Spichiger replaced Katie Vahle in net and netted six saves in the frame.
The final quarter was a low-scoring affair, as UC Davis rallied with three goals of their own to ASU’s two, but the running clock and the offensive attack was too much for the Aggies, as ASU went on to secure the 20-11 victory.
