(Tucson, AZ) Pima Community College men’s basketball players Cohenj Gonzales (Mesquite HS) and Gabe Oldham culminated their Pima careers with high honors from the NJCAA.
Gonzales, a sophomore guard, was named First Team NJCAA Division II All-American while Oldham, a sophomore forward/center, was selected Second Team NJCAA Division II All-American. They are the 12th and 13th NJCAA All-Americans in program history; 10 of them have been coached by Brian Peabody.
Gonzales was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Year and became a two-time First Team All-ACCAC player and a two-time All-Region I, Division II athlete. He was selected as the ACCAC Division II Freshman of the Year last season.
Gonzales scored in double figures in 30 of the 32 games played this season, averaging 18.7 points, 4.9 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals as he played and started in 35 games this season. He was the sixth player under coach Brian Peabody to score over 1,000 points for their career at Pima. He finished in the fifth spot with 1,131 points.
Gonzales earned the Jack Cistriano Best Small Man Award and was named to the All-NJCAA Division II Tournament Team. He averaged 19.0 points, 4.8 assists and 3.8 rebounds in the four games at the tournament.
Oldham was a two-time All-ACCAC and All-Region I, Division II player. He played in 35 games this season; making 34 starts in the frontcourt as he averaged 12.9 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks per game.
Oldham was named to the All-NJCAA Division II Tournament team after averaging 15.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game in four games played. He had 11 double-doubles in points and rebounds this season; securing three double-doubles in four games at the National Tournament.
Oldham finished with 417 points scored (804 for his career) and 300 rebounds this season.
Gonzales and Oldham join Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) in 2024, Traivar Jackson (2022, 2023), Jake Lieppert (Saguaro HS) in 2020, Abram Carrasco (Cholla HS) in 2019, Keven Biggs (Cienega HS) in 2018, Deion James (Empire HS) in 2017, Murphy Gershman (Tucson Magnet HS) in 2015, Darrell King (1991), James Ford (1990) and Greg Cook (1980) on the Pima Men’s Basketball NJCAA All-Americans list.
Gonzales and Oldham close out their Pima careers with a record of 64-7 overall, which includes going 35-1 this season and guiding Pima to a program-best 34-game winning streak. They also secured two Region I, Division I Championships and a third-place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
