Taylor Brown breaks school record in 200 meters as Aztecs Track & Field opens Outdoor Season at Willie Williams

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College Men’s and Women’s Track & Field teams opened the Outdoor Season on Saturday at the Roy P. Drachman Stadium as part of the Willie Williams Invitational.

Freshman Taylor Brown broke the Pima Outdoor school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.11 seconds. He broke a record that was held for 24 years by Jeff Garner at 21.21 set in 2001. Brown also earned a second national qualifying time in the 100 meters as he finished with a time of 10.48. His time moved him to the No. 3 spot in Pima school history.

Sophomore Nathaniel Curtiss (Rincon/University HS) took third place in the High Jump as he cleared a season-best 2.05 meters (6-feet, 8.75-inches) to improve on his Outdoor national qualifier.

Freshman Connor Grusendorf (Mica Mountain HS) earned a national qualifier in the 5,000-meter race as he crossed the finish line with a time of 15:09.04.

Sophomore Louis Madrigal-Diaz (North Canyon HS) earned his Outdoor national qualifying time in the 1,500-meter race as he finished with a time of 3:57.93.

Freshman Jake Applegate took home a national qualifier in the 400-meter hurdles, closing it out with a time of 54.27 seconds.

Freshman Martin Valencia-Felix (St. Augustine Catholic HS) earned a qualifier in the Javelin with a throw of 53.84 me5ters (176-feet, 1-inch).

The Aztecs men’s team has a total of 10 national qualifying marks so far during the Outdoor season.

On the women’s side, sophomores Linda Rivero (Desert View HS) and Reatta Danhof (Ironwood Ridge HS) started off the season with national qualifiers in the 1,500 meters. Rivero set her qualifier at 4:52.54 while Danhof crossed the finish line at 4:54.69.

The Aztecs women’s team has a total of six national qualifiers so far in the Outdoor Season.

The Aztecs will have a busy week on the road as they will compete in the Distance in the Dark meet at Mesa Community College on Thursday, then head to the Paradise Valley CC Multi’s at Paradise Valley CC on Friday and close it out at the Cody McBride Invitational at Paradise Valley CC on Saturday.
