(Tucson, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert softball team (5-5, 0-0) dropped its second non-conference game of the day, falling to the University of Jamestown Jimmies (16-9, 0-0) Sunday afternoon in the Tucson Invitational at Lincoln Park.

Following a 13-run victory against Dickinson State earlier in the afternoon, the Buccaneer bats got quiet as the team fell by a score of 6-4.

The Jimmies took a 4-0 lead after the top of the second inning, Park-Gilbert began to slowly chip away at the deficit one run at a time.

Left fielder Mady Lackey got the Bucs on the scoreboard with a single and an RBI in the bottom of the second inning. Jamestown responded in the top of the third inning by adding two more runs onto the board.

Things got interesting in the second half of the game, as the Bucs tacked three more runs to their total in the bottom of the fourth inning. Catcher Bri Jackson got an RBI with a single to center field, as it brought base runner Valentina Perez to home plate. Then at the next at-bat, with the bases loaded, second baseman Valentina Perez drove home two runs with a ground-rule double.

No runs were scored by either team in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. However, Park-Gilbert had two runners left on base at the end of the fifth and seventh. In the final inning, down two runs, third baseman Ileana Rivera got a ground-rule double sending Ledezma Romero to third base.

Nicole Darby got the start on the mound for the Bucs and Mana Risati came in relief during the top of the third inning, as both pitchers combined for 111 pitches.

Park-Gilbert totaled eight runs and no errors, to Jamestown’s 12 hits and no errors.

The Park-Gilbert softball team prepares for a quick turnaround, as they gear up for another pair of games at the Tucson Invitational. First they take on Dakota Wesleyan University at 1:30 p.m. PST, followed by a date with Viterbo University at 3:30 p.m. PST. These games will be played at Lincoln Park.
