(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (29-1) hosted a non-conference doubleheader against Heartland Community College (4-9-1) on Friday at the West Campus Aztec Field.
The Aztecs got a boost once again from freshman Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS) as she hit her 13th home run of the season and closed out the day going 4 for 7 with five RBIs, three runs scored and two homers. Sophomore Natalya Rivera (Sunnyside HS) finished 2 for 6 with two RBIs and two runs. Freshman Arianna Flores (Salpointe Catholic HS) and Jessica Thompson (Tanque Verde HS) picked up the wins.
Game 1: (5) Pima Aztecs 7, Heartland Hawks 3
After three scoreless innings of play, the Aztecs turned it on in the later innings.
The Aztecs got on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning when Rivera hit a solo home run to center field on the first pitch.

The Hawks tied the game in the top of the 5th inning but the Aztecs responded in the bottom-half. Freshmen Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS), Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) and sophomore Talia Martin (Mountain View HS) hit three straight singles to start the inning. With one out, Nunez hit a grand slam to right field as Pima took a 5-1 lead.
The Hawks got a run back in the 6th inning, but the Aztecs used the long ball again as Lopez-Bedoy hit a shot to center field that cleared the fence.
Nunez finished the game 2 for 4 with four RBIs and a run scored. Lopez-Bedoy closed it out going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run while Rivera was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Figueroa and Ortiz each were 1 for 3 with a run and Martin went 2 for 4 with a run.
Flores picked up the win to remain undefeated in the circle as she pitched all seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits with nine strikeouts and five walks on 136 pitches.

Game 2: (5) Pima Aztecs 4, Heartland Hawks 3
Martin hit a walk-off RBI double to score Figueroa with one out in the 7th inning to complete the comeback. Figueroa had singled to get on base and was moved over to second when freshman Taiya Teixeira (Salpointe Catholic HS) drew a walk.
The Aztecs took the lead in the 1st inning when Nunez hit her second home run of the day on a solo shot with two outs.
The Hawks scored one run in each the 3rd, 4th and 6th innings to take a 3-1 advantage.
The Aztecs got back into the game with two outs in the bottom-half of the 6th. Rivera hit an RBI double to bring in Nunez and freshman Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS) followed with an RBI single to plate Rivera and tie the game at 3-3.
Nunez finished the game 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs. Lopez was 2 for 3 with a run scored while Rivera went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Figueroa finished 1 for 2 with a run.
Thompson picked up the win after she threw all seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and three walks on 123 pitches.

The Aztecs will be back on the field on Saturday when they play an ACCAC conference doubleheader at South Mountain Community College. Games at noon and 2:00 p.m.
